The Calgary Flames secured a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night, with Ryan Lomberg scoring the game-winning goal in the third period.
The Flames started off strong, with Elias Lindholm scoring the first goal of the game just 1:22 into the first period. However, the Senators quickly responded with two goals of their own, taking the lead in the second period.
But the Flames refused to back down, and with just over 10 minutes left in the game, Lomberg scored his first goal of the season, tying the game at 2-2. Then, with just 5:55 remaining, Lomberg struck again, giving the Flames the lead and ultimately securing the win.
Lomberg, who was called up from the AHL’s Stockton Heat just hours before the game, proved to be a valuable asset for the Flames. His determination and skill on the ice helped turn the game around and secure the victory for his team.
This win marks the Flames’ third consecutive victory, bringing their record to 6-5-1 for the season. It also puts them in a good position as they head into a tough stretch of games against top teams in the league.
Head coach Geoff Ward praised Lomberg’s performance, stating, “He’s a guy that plays with a lot of energy and he’s a guy that’s really well-liked in our room. He’s a guy that’s really well-respected in our room. He’s a guy that’s really well-respected by our coaching staff.”
Lomberg himself was humble about his game-winning performance, saying, “I just wanted to come in and do my job and help the team win. I was fortunate enough to get a couple of bounces and put them in the back of the net.”
The Flames will look to continue their winning streak as they face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday. With Lomberg’s impressive performance and the team’s recent success, they are sure to bring their A-game to the ice.
