New stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge to open 1 lane on Christmas Eve

The new Staləwəsəm Bridge, connecting the communities of North Vancouver and West Vancouver, will be partially open to traffic on Christmas Eve. The bridge, which has been under construction for over three years, will have one lane open in each direction for vehicles.

The partial opening of the bridge is a significant milestone for the project, which has faced numerous delays and setbacks. The original completion date was set for fall 2020, but due to unforeseen challenges, the opening had to be pushed back.

According to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, the partial opening of the bridge is a result of the hard work and dedication of the construction team. They have been working tirelessly to ensure the bridge is safe and ready for public use.

The new Staləwəsəm Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge, with a main span of 470 meters and a total length of 1.6 kilometers. It will replace the aging and seismically vulnerable Ironworkers Memorial Bridge, which has been in use since 1960.

The bridge is designed to improve traffic flow and safety for commuters, cyclists, and pedestrians. It will also have a dedicated bus lane and a separated multi-use path for cyclists and pedestrians.

The partial opening of the bridge on Christmas Eve will provide some relief for commuters who have been facing long delays and traffic congestion due to the construction. However, drivers are advised to use caution and follow the posted speed limits as construction will still be ongoing.

The remaining work on the bridge, including the installation of the second lane and the completion of the multi-use path, is expected to be completed by summer 2021. The official opening of the bridge is scheduled for fall 2021.

The Staləwəsəm Bridge is a crucial infrastructure project that will benefit the communities of North Vancouver and West Vancouver for years to come. It is a testament to the collaboration and hard work of all those involved in its construction.
