Muslim youth donate 600 pounds of food to Avalon food bank

A group of Muslim youth in St. John’s, Newfoundland have made a significant contribution to their community by donating 600 pounds of food to the Avalon Food Bank.

The donation was made by the Muslim Youth Association (MYA) as part of their annual food drive during the month of Ramadan. The MYA is a non-profit organization that aims to promote community service and charitable giving among Muslim youth.

According to MYA president, Aisha Khan, the food drive is a way for the youth to give back to the community and help those in need. “Ramadan is a time of reflection and giving, and we wanted to do our part in helping those who are struggling with food insecurity,” she stated.

The food drive was a huge success, with the MYA collecting over 600 pounds of non-perishable food items, including canned goods, pasta, and rice. The donations were then delivered to the Avalon Food Bank, where they will be distributed to families in need.

The Avalon Food Bank expressed their gratitude for the generous donation from the Muslim youth. “We are incredibly thankful for the support of the MYA and their commitment to helping those in need in our community,” said food bank coordinator, Sarah Smith.

This is not the first time the MYA has organized a food drive during Ramadan. In previous years, they have also donated to other local food banks and charities, including the Gathering Place and the Salvation Army.

The MYA hopes that their donation will inspire others to give back to their community and make a positive impact. “We believe that small acts of kindness can make a big difference, and we encourage everyone to do their part in helping those in need,” said Khan.

The Muslim youth’s donation of 600 pounds of food to the Avalon Food Bank is a testament to the power of community and the spirit of giving. It serves as a reminder that no matter our differences, we can all come together to make a positive impact in our society.
