Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick is set to receive a much-needed upgrade to its acute care spaces. The announcement was made by the provincial government on Tuesday, with plans to invest $14.3 million into the hospital.
The hospital, which serves as a regional referral center for central and southern New Brunswick, has been facing challenges in providing timely and efficient care due to outdated and overcrowded acute care spaces. This has resulted in longer wait times for patients and added strain on healthcare staff.
The investment will see the renovation and expansion of the hospital’s emergency department, as well as the creation of a new observation unit and a new medical device reprocessing department. These upgrades will not only improve the overall patient experience but also increase the hospital’s capacity to provide quality care to those in need.
According to Health Minister Dorothy Shephard, the upgrades will also help attract and retain healthcare professionals in the region. “We know that having modern and efficient facilities is crucial in recruiting and retaining healthcare workers,” she stated.
The project is expected to be completed by 2023 and will be funded through the provincial government’s capital budget. This investment is part of the government’s commitment to improving healthcare services for New Brunswickers.
In addition to the upgrades at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, the government has also announced investments in other healthcare facilities across the province. This includes $5.5 million for the expansion of the Saint John Regional Hospital’s emergency department and $2.5 million for the construction of a new community health centre in Shediac.
The upgrades at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital are a much-needed step towards improving healthcare services in New Brunswick. With a growing population and increasing demand for quality care, it is crucial for hospitals to have modern and efficient facilities. This investment will not only benefit patients but also healthcare professionals, ensuring that they have the necessary resources to provide the best possible care.
