Brockville Area Elementary Schools Receive Mixed Grades
The latest report card for elementary schools in the Brockville area has been released, and the results are a mixed bag. The report, which was compiled by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), evaluates schools based on their students’ performance in reading, writing, and math.
Out of the 12 elementary schools in the Brockville area, only three received an overall rating of “very good.” These schools are Westminster Public School, Toniata Public School, and South Grenville District High School. On the other hand, four schools received a rating of “good,” while five schools were rated as “satisfactory.” Unfortunately, one school, Thousand Islands Elementary School, received a rating of “needs improvement.”
The report also breaks down the results by subject. In reading, six schools received a rating of “very good,” while four were rated as “good.” In writing, five schools were rated as “very good,” four as “good,” and three as “satisfactory.” In math, only two schools received a rating of “very good,” while six were rated as “good,” and four as “satisfactory.”
The EQAO report also includes data on the percentage of students who met or exceeded the provincial standard in each subject. In reading, 75% of students met or exceeded the standard, while 74% did so in writing and 58% in math. These numbers are slightly lower than the provincial average, which stands at 81% for reading, 80% for writing, and 61% for math.
While the results may not be as high as desired, it is important to note that the EQAO report is just one measure of a school’s performance. Other factors, such as student engagement and well-being, also play a crucial role in a school’s success.
The EQAO report serves as a valuable tool for schools to identify areas for improvement and to track their progress over time. It is also a useful resource for parents and the community to gain insight into the performance of their local schools.
In response to the report, the Upper Canada District School Board has stated that they are committed to working with schools to address any areas of concern and to continue to provide a high-quality education for their students.
Overall, while the results may be mixed, it is clear that the Brockville area elementary schools are dedicated to providing their students with a solid education. With continued efforts and support from the community, these schools will surely see improvement in the years to come.
