The Smiling Coast: Rotary Delegation Returns from Gambian Trip

A delegation from the Rotary Club of Chatham recently returned from a trip to The Gambia, a small country in West Africa known as “The Smiling Coast.” The group, consisting of six members, embarked on the journey to further their humanitarian efforts and strengthen the relationship between the two communities.

Led by Rotary Club President, John Smith, the delegation spent two weeks in The Gambia, visiting various villages and meeting with local leaders and community members. The purpose of the trip was to assess the needs of the Gambian people and identify potential projects for the Rotary Club to support.

During their stay, the delegation visited schools, health clinics, and water wells, all of which are areas that the Rotary Club has previously provided aid to. They also had the opportunity to meet with the President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, and discuss potential collaborations to improve the lives of the Gambian people.

One of the highlights of the trip was the distribution of over 500 pairs of shoes to children in need. The shoes were donated by the Rotary Club of Chatham and were met with great appreciation and joy from the children and their families.

In addition to their humanitarian efforts, the delegation also had the chance to experience the rich culture and traditions of The Gambia. They were welcomed with open arms by the locals and were able to immerse themselves in the vibrant community.

Upon their return, the delegation expressed their gratitude for the warm hospitality and kindness they received from the Gambian people. They also shared their excitement for the potential projects and partnerships that were discussed during their trip.

The Rotary Club of Chatham has a long history of supporting communities in need, both locally and internationally. This trip to The Gambia is just one example of their dedication to making a positive impact in the world.

As the delegation settles back into their daily routines, they are already planning their next trip to The Gambia, eager to continue their efforts in creating a better future for the people of “The Smiling Coast.”
