North Bay OPP have been kept busy as they recently arrested two individuals for stunt driving.

According to reports, the first incident occurred on Highway 11 near Powassan when an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver was clocked at 160 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. The 25-year-old driver from Toronto was charged with stunt driving and had their vehicle impounded and driver’s license suspended for seven days.

In a separate incident, another driver was caught speeding on Highway 17 near Bonfield. The vehicle was travelling at 150 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. The 22-year-old driver from North Bay was also charged with stunt driving and had their vehicle impounded and driver’s license suspended for seven days.

Stunt driving is a serious offense that puts not only the driver, but also other road users at risk. It is defined as driving 50 km/h or more over the posted speed limit. The consequences for this offense include a fine of up to $10,000, up to six months in jail, and a driver’s license suspension of up to two years.

The OPP is reminding drivers to obey posted speed limits and to drive safely at all times. They also urge the public to report any dangerous driving behavior to the police.
