Calgary’s French-speaking communities came together to celebrate their culture and heritage at the annual Franco Festival, held at Olympic Plaza.
The festival, which took place on Saturday, July 10th, was a lively and vibrant event that showcased the diversity and richness of the French-speaking community in Calgary. Attendees were treated to a variety of activities, performances, and delicious food, all while surrounded by the beautiful backdrop of Olympic Plaza.
The event was organized by the Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta (ACFA) and the Société de la francophonie albertaine (SFA), two organizations dedicated to promoting and preserving the French language and culture in Alberta.
“We are thrilled to see so many people come out and celebrate with us,” said ACFA President, Marie-Claude Gagnon. “This festival is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and share our love for the French language and culture.”
The festival featured a variety of performances, including traditional French music, dance, and theatre. Attendees were also able to participate in workshops and activities, such as French language lessons, cooking demonstrations, and arts and crafts.
One of the highlights of the festival was the food, with a wide selection of French cuisine available from local vendors. From crepes to poutine, attendees were able to indulge in a taste of France right in the heart of Calgary.
The festival also provided a platform for local French-speaking businesses and organizations to showcase their products and services. This not only supported the community, but also allowed attendees to learn more about the French-speaking resources available in Calgary.
The Franco Festival is an important event for the French-speaking community in Calgary, as it not only celebrates their culture and heritage, but also promotes unity and inclusivity. It is a reminder of the vibrant and diverse community that exists within the city.
As the festival came to a close, attendees were left with a sense of pride and belonging, knowing that their culture and language are celebrated and valued in Calgary.
