A seemingly innocent parking violation in northern Alberta has led to serious charges for two individuals after police discovered drugs and weapons in their vehicle.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the town of High Level. A local resident reported a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone, prompting a bylaw officer to investigate.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the bylaw officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside. The officer then contacted the High Level RCMP for assistance.
Upon further inspection, police discovered a significant amount of drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana, as well as several weapons, including a loaded handgun and a machete.
As a result, two individuals, a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, were arrested and are now facing multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The High Level RCMP is reminding the public to report any suspicious activity or violations, as it can lead to the discovery of criminal activity.
