Air quality advisory remains for parts of Manitoba Wednesday morning

An air quality advisory remains in effect for certain areas of Manitoba on Wednesday morning, according to officials.

The advisory, which was issued on Tuesday, is still in effect for the City of Winnipeg, as well as the municipalities of Selkirk, Gimli, and Bifrost-Riverton.

The advisory was put in place due to high levels of air pollution caused by fine particulate matter. This can be harmful to those with respiratory issues, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The air quality index (AQI) for Winnipeg was at 7 on Wednesday morning, which is considered a moderate risk level. The AQI for Selkirk and Gimli was at 6, while Bifrost-Riverton’s AQI was at 5.

Officials are advising residents in these areas to limit their outdoor activities and to stay indoors as much as possible. If going outside is necessary, it is recommended to wear a mask to protect against the fine particulate matter.

The advisory is expected to remain in effect until the air quality improves. Environment Canada is monitoring the situation and will provide updates as needed.

Residents are also encouraged to check the air quality index regularly and to take necessary precautions to protect their health.

This advisory serves as a reminder of the importance of monitoring and maintaining air quality for the well-being of our communities. We must all do our part to reduce air pollution and protect our environment.
