Kelowna, BC – A man has been charged for the hit-and-run death of a Kelowna teenager.
According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of June 11, when 17-year-old Emily Smith was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at the intersection of Springfield Road and Burtch Road. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving Smith with critical injuries.
After an extensive investigation, the Kelowna RCMP Traffic Services Unit identified and arrested the suspect, 32-year-old John Williams. Williams has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death.
Smith was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries the following day. Her family and friends are devastated by the loss of such a young and promising life.
