Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Mississauga suffers critical injuries

A pedestrian in Mississauga has been critically injured after being struck by a vehicle on Monday evening.

According to Peel Regional Police, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Hurontario Street and Eglinton Avenue.

The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

Police have closed off the intersection for investigation and are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.

This is the latest in a string of pedestrian accidents in the Greater Toronto Area, highlighting the need for increased safety measures for pedestrians.

In 2019, there were 42 pedestrian fatalities in Toronto alone, prompting the city to launch its Vision Zero Road Safety Plan, which aims to eliminate all traffic-related deaths and serious injuries by 2030.

As the investigation into this incident continues, authorities are reminding drivers to be cautious and aware of their surroundings, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Peel Regional Police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
