Fire destroys commercial greenhouse in Surrey

A devastating fire has destroyed a commercial greenhouse in Surrey, leaving behind a trail of destruction and loss for the business owners.

The fire broke out on Sunday evening at the greenhouse located on 176th Street and 40th Avenue. Firefighters were called to the scene around 8:30 p.m. and arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames.

According to Surrey Fire Battalion Chief, Reo Jerome, the fire was difficult to contain due to the large amount of plastic and other materials used in the greenhouse. It took over 30 firefighters and several hours to fully extinguish the blaze.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. However, the greenhouse, which was used to grow flowers and plants for commercial sale, was completely destroyed. The estimated damage is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have started in the back of the greenhouse. The owners of the business are understandably devastated by the loss of their livelihood.

The fire also caused some traffic disruptions in the area, as 176th Street was closed for several hours while firefighters worked to put out the flames.

The Surrey Fire Department is reminding all business owners to regularly check their fire safety measures and ensure that all necessary precautions are in place to prevent such incidents from occurring.

This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the devastating consequences that can result from a fire. Our thoughts are with the business owners during this difficult time.
