The Toronto Blue Jays dominated the New York Mets with a 6-2 victory on Tuesday night, thanks to a strong performance in the third inning.
The Blue Jays started off strong, with Marcus Semien hitting a leadoff single and eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly by Bo Bichette in the first inning. However, it was the third inning that truly solidified their win.
In the third, the Blue Jays scored four runs, with Teoscar Hernandez hitting a two-run homer and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. adding a two-run double. This offensive burst gave the Blue Jays a comfortable lead that they maintained for the rest of the game.
On the pitching side, Blue Jays starter Steven Matz had a solid outing, allowing only two runs on five hits over six innings. He also struck out five batters, earning his eighth win of the season.
The Mets, on the other hand, struggled to get their offense going against the Blue Jays’ strong pitching. Their only runs came in the fourth inning, with a solo homer from Pete Alonso and an RBI single from Jeff McNeil.
Despite the Mets’ efforts, the Blue Jays’ lead was too much to overcome. The Blue Jays’ bullpen, led by Tim Mayza and Jordan Romano, shut down the Mets’ offense for the remainder of the game.
This win marks the Blue Jays’ fourth consecutive victory and improves their record to 52-48. They currently sit fourth in the American League East division, but are only three games back from a wild card spot.
The Blue Jays will look to continue their winning streak as they face the Mets again on Wednesday night. With their strong performance in this game, the Blue Jays have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with in the MLB.
