Vancouver Canucks player Dakota Joshua has revealed that he is currently in recovery from cancer.
In a statement released by the team, Joshua shared that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in November 2020. He underwent surgery and is now undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
The 24-year-old forward expressed his gratitude for the support he has received from his teammates, coaches, and the entire Canucks organization. He also thanked his family and friends for their unwavering support during this difficult time.
Joshua’s diagnosis came as a shock to many, as he had been playing for the Canucks’ AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets, at the time. He had been drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2014 and was acquired by the Canucks in a trade with the St. Louis Blues in October 2020.
Despite his diagnosis, Joshua has remained positive and determined to beat cancer. He has been working closely with the Canucks’ medical team and is determined to return to the ice as soon as possible.
The Canucks organization has shown their support for Joshua by wearing “DJ” stickers on their helmets during games. The team has also set up a GoFundMe page to help with Joshua’s medical expenses.
In his statement, Joshua encouraged others to get regular check-ups and to not ignore any unusual symptoms. He also expressed his hope to use his platform to raise awareness about testicular cancer and the importance of early detection.
The Canucks and their fans are rallying behind Joshua as he continues his recovery. The team has stated that they will provide updates on his progress as they become available.
We wish Dakota Joshua all the best in his recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the ice soon.
