Ontario motorcyclist films himself speeding at more than 250 km/h, gets charged: police

An Ontario motorcyclist has found himself in hot water after filming himself speeding at a dangerous rate of over 250 km/h. The incident, which was captured on video and shared on social media, has resulted in charges being laid by police.

According to authorities, the video shows the motorcyclist travelling at an alarming speed on a highway in the Greater Toronto Area. The footage, which has since been removed from social media, also shows the rider weaving in and out of traffic and performing dangerous stunts.

The motorcyclist, who has not been identified, has been charged with stunt driving and dangerous driving under the Highway Traffic Act. If convicted, he could face fines of up to $10,000, a license suspension of up to two years, and even potential jail time.

Police are using this incident as a reminder to all motorists to obey the rules of the road and to drive safely. “Speeding and reckless driving not only puts the driver at risk, but also endangers the lives of other road users,” said Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the Ontario Provincial Police.

This is not the first time a motorcyclist has been caught on camera breaking the law. In 2019, a motorcyclist in British Columbia was charged after posting a video of himself travelling at speeds of up to 300 km/h on a highway.

Authorities are urging the public to report any dangerous driving they witness on the roads. “We all have a responsibility to keep our roads safe,” said Schmidt. “If you see someone driving recklessly, please report it to the police.”

The motorcyclist in this incident is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. In the meantime, police are reminding all motorists to obey the speed limit and to drive safely to prevent accidents and injuries on the road.
