Meet the woman mapping Winnipeg's Halloween houses

Winnipeg, MB – As Halloween approaches, one woman is making it her mission to map out the spookiest and most festive houses in the city. Meet Sarah Johnson, the mastermind behind the “Halloween Houses of Winnipeg” project.

Johnson, a local resident and self-proclaimed Halloween enthusiast, has been mapping out the best-decorated houses in Winnipeg for the past five years. Her love for the holiday and her passion for exploring different neighborhoods led her to start this project.

“I’ve always loved Halloween and I’ve always loved driving around and looking at houses,” Johnson said in an interview with CTV News. “So I thought, why not combine the two and create a map for others to enjoy as well?”

The map, which can be found on Johnson’s website, features over 100 houses that have been decked out in spooky decorations, from elaborate light displays to creepy inflatables and everything in between. Each house is marked with a pumpkin icon and includes the address, a photo, and a brief description of the decorations.

Johnson spends countless hours driving around the city, scouting out new houses and updating the map with the latest additions. She also relies on submissions from other Halloween enthusiasts who want to share their favorite houses with the community.

“I’ve had people reach out to me and say, ‘Hey, I saw this amazing house in my neighborhood, can you add it to the map?'” Johnson said. “It’s really become a community effort.”

The map has gained popularity over the years, with many families making it a tradition to drive around and check out the Halloween houses. Johnson has also received positive feedback from homeowners who are thrilled to be featured on the map.

“It’s been really heartwarming to see how much joy this map brings to people,” Johnson said. “I’ve had homeowners tell me that they’ve had more visitors this year because of the map, and that just makes me so happy.”

Johnson hopes to continue expanding the map and encourages anyone with a decorated house to reach out and be added to the list. She also plans to add a feature where visitors can vote for their favorite house, with the winner receiving a special prize.

As Halloween approaches, Johnson’s map is a must-see for anyone looking to get into the spooky spirit. So grab your pumpkin spice latte and take a drive around Winnipeg to experience the Halloween magic for yourself.
