A computer outage on Monday morning caused major service interruptions on three metro lines in Montreal, leaving commuters frustrated and delayed.
According to the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), the outage occurred at around 8:30 a.m. and affected the orange, green, and yellow lines. The issue was caused by a technical problem with the computer system that controls the trains.
As a result, trains were unable to run on the affected lines, causing delays and overcrowding at stations. Many commuters took to social media to express their frustration and share photos of packed platforms and trains.
The STM worked quickly to resolve the issue and by 10:30 a.m., service had been partially restored on the orange and green lines. However, the yellow line remained completely shut down until around noon.
In a statement, the STM apologized for the inconvenience and assured commuters that they were doing everything possible to get the trains running again. They also advised passengers to check the STM website or social media for updates on the situation.
The outage caused major disruptions during the morning rush hour, with many commuters arriving late to work or appointments. Some even had to find alternative modes of transportation.
This is not the first time the STM has experienced technical issues with their computer system. In 2019, a similar outage caused service interruptions on multiple metro lines, leading to widespread delays and frustration among commuters.
The STM has since implemented measures to prevent such outages from occurring, but it seems that more needs to be done to ensure the smooth operation of the metro system.
As of now, service on all three affected lines has been fully restored and the STM has assured commuters that they will continue to monitor the situation closely.
For now, commuters can only hope that the STM will take the necessary steps to prevent future computer outages and ensure a reliable and efficient metro system for all.
