After months of planning and construction, the first tenants are set to move into London’s new modular shelter site next week.
The site, located at 500 Clarke Road, will provide temporary housing for individuals experiencing homelessness in the city. It is a joint effort between the City of London, the London Homeless Coalition, and the Salvation Army.
The modular shelter site consists of 50 individual units, each equipped with a bed, storage space, and a private bathroom. The site also includes a common area for residents to gather and socialize, as well as a kitchen and laundry facilities.
According to the City of London, the modular shelter site will provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness. It will also offer access to resources and services to help residents transition to more permanent housing.
The first tenants to move into the site have been carefully selected by the London Homeless Coalition, with priority given to those who have been living in emergency shelters or on the streets for an extended period of time.
The Salvation Army will be providing on-site support services, including case management and mental health support, to help residents address any underlying issues and work towards finding stable housing.
The modular shelter site is a temporary solution to address the growing issue of homelessness in London. The City of London is also working on long-term strategies to prevent and reduce homelessness in the community.
The site is expected to be fully operational by the end of the month, with all 50 units occupied. The City of London and its partners are committed to providing a safe and dignified living space for those in need, and will continue to work towards finding sustainable solutions to end homelessness in the city.
