Two 'prolific offenders' arrested for armed robbery shortly after release: RCMP

Two individuals with a history of criminal activity have been arrested for armed robbery shortly after being released from custody, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The incident occurred on December 29, 2020, when the two suspects, who were both on probation at the time, allegedly entered a convenience store in Red Deer, Alberta, armed with a firearm. They proceeded to demand money and cigarettes from the store clerk before fleeing the scene.

The RCMP were immediately notified and launched an investigation, which led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the two suspects. They were taken into custody without incident and are now facing multiple charges, including armed robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of probation.

Both individuals have a lengthy criminal record, with one of them having been released from custody just two days prior to the robbery. The other suspect had been released on probation in November 2020.

“This is a prime example of the revolving door of the justice system,” said Sgt. Paul Glanville of the Red Deer RCMP. “These two individuals were given a chance to turn their lives around, but instead, they chose to continue their criminal behavior.”

The RCMP is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. They also want to remind individuals that the consequences of criminal behavior can have a significant impact on their lives and the lives of others.

The two suspects are currently in custody and are scheduled to appear in court on January 6, 2021. The RCMP’s investigation into the incident is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
