Chatham, Ontario – The local hockey community is buzzing with excitement as one of their own, Ryan Goure, has been called up to the American Hockey League (AHL). The 19-year-old forward has been making waves in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Flint Firebirds and has now been given the opportunity to showcase his skills at the next level.
Goure, a native of Chatham, has been a standout player for the Firebirds this season, recording 12 goals and 14 assists in just 25 games. His impressive performance caught the attention of the Cleveland Monsters, the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, who have signed him to an amateur tryout contract.
This is a major milestone for Goure, who was drafted by the Firebirds in the fourth round of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. He has worked hard to develop his skills and has proven himself as a top player in the league. His call-up to the AHL is a testament to his dedication and determination.
But Goure isn’t the only local hockey player making headlines. The Chatham Maroons, a Junior B team in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL), have added a new player to their roster – prep school forward, Ryan Gagner.
Gagner, a 17-year-old from Michigan, has been playing for the prestigious Shattuck-St. Mary’s prep school in Minnesota. He brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Maroons, having played for the U16 and U18 teams at Shattuck-St. Mary’s.
Maroons head coach Kyle Makaric is excited to have Gagner join the team, stating, “Ryan is a skilled forward with great speed and a high hockey IQ. He will be a great addition to our lineup and we look forward to seeing him in action.”
Gagner is equally thrilled to be joining the Maroons, saying, “I am excited to be a part of such a great organization and to play in front of the passionate fans in Chatham.”
The Maroons are currently in second place in the GOJHL’s Western Conference and are hoping that Gagner’s addition will help them make a strong push for the playoffs.
The local hockey community is proud to see two talented players from the area making their mark in the sport. Goure’s call-up to the AHL and Gagner’s addition to the Maroons’ roster are a testament to the strong hockey culture in Chatham and the dedication of these young players to their craft.
As Goure and Gagner continue to chase their dreams, the community will be cheering them on every step of the way.
