The North Bay Battalion showed their resilience and determination as they outlasted the Peterborough Petes in a thrilling game to maintain their position near the top of the Central Division.
The game started off with a fast pace, with both teams eager to gain an early lead. The Petes were able to strike first, with Nick Robertson scoring just over a minute into the game. However, the Battalion quickly responded with a goal from Brad Chenier to tie the game.
The rest of the first period saw both teams battling hard, but neither were able to find the back of the net. The second period was a different story, as the Petes came out strong and were able to take a 2-1 lead with a goal from Semyon Der-Arguchintsev.
But the Battalion refused to back down and continued to fight for the win. They were rewarded for their efforts when Luke Moncada scored a power-play goal to tie the game once again. The rest of the period saw both teams exchanging chances, but the score remained tied at 2-2 heading into the third period.
The third period was a tense and physical affair, with both teams giving it their all. The Petes were able to take the lead once again with a goal from Max Grondin, but the Battalion were not ready to give up. They continued to push and were able to tie the game once again with a goal from Brandon Coe.
As the game headed into overtime, both teams were determined to come out on top. The Petes had a few good chances, but it was the Battalion who ultimately prevailed. With just over a minute left in overtime, Moncada scored his second goal of the game to secure the 4-3 victory for the Battalion.
The win was a crucial one for the Battalion, as it kept them in second place in the Central Division, just one point behind the division-leading Sudbury Wolves. It also extended their winning streak to four games, showing their strong form and determination to compete for the top spot in the division.
Head coach Stan Butler praised his team’s effort and resilience in the game, stating that “it was a hard-fought game and we were able to come out on top. Our guys showed a lot of character and determination to keep fighting until the end.”
The Battalion will look to continue their winning streak as they face off against the Mississauga Steelheads in their next game. With their strong performance and never-give-up attitude, the Battalion are proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the OHL.
