Toronto and Vaughan fire crews were hard at work on Monday afternoon, battling a series of grass fires along a rail corridor.
The fires were first reported around 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Keele Street and Highway 407. According to Toronto Fire Services, the fires were spread out over a distance of approximately 10 kilometres.
Crews from both Toronto and Vaughan responded to the scene, with a total of 10 fire trucks and 40 firefighters working to extinguish the blazes.
The cause of the fires is still under investigation, but officials believe they may have been sparked by a passing train. No injuries have been reported.
As of 4 p.m., the fires were under control and crews were working to fully extinguish them. However, due to the dry and windy conditions, there is still a risk of flare-ups.
Residents in the area are advised to stay away from the rail corridor and to avoid any open flames or smoking materials.
The rail corridor is expected to remain closed for several hours as crews continue to monitor and extinguish any remaining hot spots.
This incident serves as a reminder to always be cautious and aware of potential fire hazards, especially during dry and windy conditions. We commend the quick response and hard work of the fire crews in containing and extinguishing these fires.
