High winds leave thousands without electricity across Ontario

High winds have caused widespread power outages across Ontario, leaving thousands of residents without electricity.

According to reports, the strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h, have caused damage to power lines and equipment, resulting in power outages in various parts of the province.

In Toronto alone, over 10,000 customers were left without power as a result of the high winds. Other affected areas include Hamilton, London, and Ottawa.

The outages have also affected public transportation, with the Toronto Transit Commission reporting delays and cancellations due to power outages.

Hydro One, the province’s largest electricity provider, has been working to restore power to affected areas. However, due to the extent of the damage, it may take some time for all customers to have their power restored.

In a statement, Hydro One reminded customers to stay at least 10 meters away from any downed power lines and to report them immediately to 911.

The strong winds are expected to continue throughout the day, and residents are advised to take precautions and stay indoors if possible.

This is not the first time Ontario has experienced power outages due to severe weather conditions. In December 2020, a winter storm caused widespread outages, leaving over 100,000 customers without electricity.

As always, it is important for residents to be prepared for such situations and have emergency kits ready in case of power outages.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available. Stay safe, Ontario.
