A Toronto woman had a frightening encounter with a coyote near Ontario Place on Tuesday evening.
According to the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, she was walking along the waterfront near Ontario Place when she suddenly spotted a coyote just a few feet away from her.
“I froze in fear,” the woman said. “I’ve never seen a coyote up close like that before.”
The woman said the coyote appeared to be following her, and she quickly called 911 for help.
Toronto police and animal control arrived on the scene and were able to safely remove the coyote from the area.
The woman was not harmed during the encounter, but she is warning others to be cautious when walking in the area.
“I never would have expected to see a coyote in such a busy area,” she said. “It’s important for people to be aware of their surroundings and to report any sightings to authorities.”
Coyote sightings in urban areas are not uncommon, as the animals are known to adapt to their surroundings and can often be found in parks and green spaces.
Authorities are reminding the public to never approach or feed wild animals, and to keep a safe distance if they encounter one.
If you do come across a coyote, experts recommend making loud noises and waving your arms to scare it away.
The woman in this incident is grateful for the quick response from authorities and hopes that her experience will serve as a reminder for others to be cautious when encountering wildlife in the city.
