Mother collecting helmets for Manitoba First Nations to honour daughter’s legacy

A mother from Manitoba is on a mission to honor her late daughter’s legacy by collecting helmets for First Nations communities in the province.

After losing her daughter, who was a passionate advocate for helmet safety, to a tragic accident, the mother has made it her mission to ensure that others in her community have access to proper head protection.

She has partnered with the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre to distribute helmets to children and youth in First Nations communities across the province.

The mother hopes that by providing helmets, she can help prevent similar tragedies from occurring and promote a culture of safety and awareness.

According to the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre, head injuries are a leading cause of death and disability among Indigenous youth in the province.

The organization also states that only 30% of children in First Nations communities have access to helmets, compared to 70% in non-Indigenous communities.

The mother’s efforts have already made a significant impact, with over 500 helmets collected and distributed to First Nations communities so far.

She plans to continue her mission and raise awareness about the importance of helmet safety, not just in First Nations communities but across the province.

The mother’s dedication and determination to honor her daughter’s legacy and make a positive impact in her community is truly inspiring. Her efforts serve as a reminder to us all to prioritize safety and look out for one another.
