Fort Nelson, B.C., wildfire expands to 127 square kilometres, but away from town

Fort Nelson, B.C. – A wildfire in Fort Nelson, British Columbia has grown to cover 127 square kilometres, but fortunately, it is moving away from the town.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire, which was first reported on April 11, has expanded significantly in size. However, it is currently moving in a northeast direction, away from the town of Fort Nelson.

The fire is currently classified as out of control and is being closely monitored by the BC Wildfire Service. As of now, there are no evacuation orders or alerts in place for the town.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to be human-caused. The BC Wildfire Service is reminding the public to be cautious and responsible when using fire in the outdoors, as the current dry and windy conditions can easily lead to wildfires.

Crews are working tirelessly to contain the fire and protect nearby structures. As of now, there have been no reports of any structures being damaged or destroyed by the fire.

The BC Wildfire Service has also implemented an area restriction order for the vicinity of the fire, in order to ensure the safety of both the public and firefighting personnel.
