Formula One drivers faced challenging conditions during a practice session ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix on Friday.
The drivers had to navigate through a wet and slippery track at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, making it difficult to find the right balance between speed and control.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who finished second in the previous race in Monaco, set the fastest time of the session with a lap of 1 minute, 12.198 seconds. However, he also spun out on the track, highlighting the tricky conditions.
Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez, also struggled with the wet track and ended up in the gravel, causing a red flag to halt the session temporarily.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, who is currently leading the championship standings, finished the session in second place, just 0.266 seconds behind Verstappen. His teammate, Valtteri Bottas, was third fastest.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly rounded out the top six.
The wet conditions proved to be a challenge for all the drivers, with many of them spinning out or going off track. However, it also provided an opportunity for them to test their skills and adapt to the changing conditions.
The Canadian Grand Prix, which was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is set to take place on Sunday. The weather forecast predicts a chance of rain, which could make for an exciting and unpredictable race.
The practice session on Friday gave the drivers a taste of what to expect on race day, and it will be interesting to see how they handle the wet conditions and who comes out on top.
Fans can tune in to watch the qualifying session on Saturday and the race on Sunday to see which driver will conquer the tricky conditions and emerge victorious at the Canadian Grand Prix.
