Chatham has lost a beloved educator and coach, as Bob Fox passed away at the age of 82. Fox was a driving force in the community, particularly at the Chatham Capitol Theatre.

Born in Chatham in 1938, Fox dedicated his life to education and sports. He began his career as a teacher at Chatham Collegiate Institute, where he also coached the football and basketball teams. He later became the principal at John McGregor Secondary School, where he continued to coach and mentor students.

Fox’s impact extended beyond the classroom and sports field. He was a key figure in the development of the Chatham Capitol Theatre, serving as the chair of the board of directors for over 20 years. Under his leadership, the theatre underwent major renovations and became a hub for arts and culture in the community.

His dedication to education and the arts was recognized by many, including former students and colleagues. In 2018, Fox was inducted into the Chatham-Kent Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to sports in the community.

Fox’s passion for teaching and coaching was evident in his interactions with students and athletes. He was known for his kind and patient demeanor, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement.

His legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and the impact he made in the community. Fox will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of life will be held at the Chatham Capitol Theatre on Saturday, October 17th at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chatham Capitol Theatre Foundation in memory of Bob Fox.
