A teenage driver has been caught driving at an alarming speed of 214 km/h on a highway in Mississauga, according to police.
The incident occurred on Saturday night on Highway 403 near Mavis Road. The driver, who is only 19 years old, was pulled over by officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) after being clocked at the dangerously high speed.
According to the OPP, the driver was operating a black Audi A4 and was travelling eastbound on the highway when he was caught speeding. The posted speed limit on that stretch of the highway is 100 km/h.
The driver has been charged with stunt driving, which carries a minimum fine of $2,000 and an immediate seven-day license suspension. The vehicle has also been impounded for seven days.
In a statement, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt called the incident “extremely concerning” and emphasized the dangers of driving at such high speeds.
“Speeding is one of the leading causes of collisions on our highways and puts everyone at risk,” Schmidt said. “We are thankful that this driver was stopped before anyone was hurt.”
The OPP is reminding all drivers, especially young and inexperienced ones, to obey speed limits and drive safely. They also urge parents to have conversations with their teenage children about the importance of responsible driving.
This incident serves as a reminder that reckless driving can have serious consequences, not only for the driver but for others on the road as well. Let us all work together to ensure the safety of our roads and communities.
