North Bay Police Proud to Carry the Torch Yet Again
The North Bay Police Department has once again been chosen to carry the Special Olympics torch through the city, marking their 33rd consecutive year of participation in the event.
The Special Olympics torch run is a global event that raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement, which provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The torch run is a symbol of unity and inclusivity, as law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes come together to carry the torch through their communities.
The North Bay Police Department has been a proud participant in the torch run since its inception in 1987. This year, they will be carrying the torch on June 4th, starting at the North Bay Police Station and ending at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
Chief Scott Tod, who has been involved in the torch run for over 20 years, expressed his pride in the department’s continued involvement in the event. “It’s an honor for us to be able to support such a meaningful cause and to show our support for the Special Olympics athletes,” he stated.
The North Bay Police Department has a long history of supporting the Special Olympics movement, not only through the torch run but also through various fundraising events and initiatives. Last year, they raised over $10,000 for the Special Olympics Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run, making them one of the top fundraising teams in the province.
The torch run is just one of the many ways in which the North Bay Police Department strives to build strong relationships with the community and promote inclusivity and diversity. “We are committed to making a positive impact in our community and supporting organizations like the Special Olympics is just one way we can do that,” Chief Tod added.
The North Bay Police Department encourages community members to come out and show their support for the torch run on June 4th. The event will also feature a BBQ and a chance to meet and interact with Special Olympics athletes.
As the North Bay Police Department proudly carries the torch once again, they hope to inspire others to join in the movement and support the Special Olympics athletes in their community.
