Assiniboine Park’s Nature Playground Set to Reopen After Refresh

After months of anticipation, Assiniboine Park’s beloved Nature Playground is set to reopen to the public on May 22nd. The popular outdoor play area has undergone a refresh, with new features and improvements to enhance the experience for visitors of all ages.

The Nature Playground, located in the heart of Assiniboine Park, has been a favorite destination for families and children since its opening in 2011. The playground is designed to encourage children to explore and connect with nature through play, with features such as a sand and water play area, a treehouse, and a giant spider web climbing structure.

The refresh of the Nature Playground includes the addition of a new “Mud Kitchen” area, where children can use their imagination to create and play with natural materials. The area also features a new “Discovery Mound” with a slide and climbing ropes, as well as a new “Log Jam” obstacle course.

In addition to the new features, the playground has also been updated with improved accessibility, making it more inclusive for children of all abilities. The pathways have been widened and a new wheelchair-accessible swing has been installed.

The refresh of the Nature Playground was made possible through a partnership between Assiniboine Park Conservancy and the City of Winnipeg. The project was funded by the City’s Community Incentive Grant program, with additional support from the Province of Manitoba and private donors.

“We are thrilled to welcome back families and children to the Nature Playground,” said Laura Cabak, Director of Communications and Public Relations for Assiniboine Park Conservancy. “The refresh of this beloved play area will provide even more opportunities for children to connect with nature and have fun in a safe and inclusive environment.”

The Nature Playground will be open daily from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, with enhanced cleaning and safety protocols in place to ensure the health and well-being of all visitors. Families are reminded to follow public health guidelines and practice physical distancing while enjoying the playground.

With the reopening of the Nature Playground, Assiniboine Park continues to be a premier destination for families and nature lovers in Winnipeg. For more information on the park and its attractions, visit the Assiniboine Park Conservancy website.
