Police in Whitby are on the lookout for a suspect involved in an alleged parking lot scam that targeted an elderly woman and resulted in the theft of her bank cards.
According to authorities, the incident took place on May 17 in the parking lot of a grocery store on Thickson Road South. The victim, an 83-year-old woman, was approached by a man who claimed to be a parking lot attendant. He convinced her to hand over her bank cards, promising to help her with her groceries.
However, once the woman handed over her cards, the suspect quickly disappeared. It was later discovered that multiple unauthorized transactions were made using the stolen cards.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s, approximately 5’10” tall with a medium build and short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a black jacket, and dark pants.
Police are urging the public to be cautious and vigilant when approached by strangers in parking lots. They advise individuals to never hand over their bank cards or personal information to anyone they do not know or trust.
