RCMP charge B.C. woman with terrorism

A British Columbia woman, Kimberly Polman, has been arrested by the RCMP for allegedly supporting the terrorist group ISIS.

According to the RCMP, Polman was arrested on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in the city of Kelowna. She has been charged with one count of “knowingly participating in or contributing to any activity of a terrorist group for the purpose of enhancing the ability of any terrorist group to facilitate or carry out a terrorist activity.”

The investigation into Polman’s alleged involvement with ISIS began in 2019, after the RCMP received information from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). The investigation was conducted by the RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) in British Columbia.

The RCMP has stated that Polman’s arrest is a result of her alleged online activities, which they believe were in support of ISIS. They also believe that she was attempting to leave Canada to join the terrorist group.

The RCMP has not provided any further details about Polman’s alleged activities or her connection to ISIS. However, they have stated that there is no threat to public safety at this time.

Polman is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 3, 2021. The RCMP has stated that they will continue to work with their partners to ensure the safety and security of Canadians.

This arrest serves as a reminder that the RCMP and its partners are committed to preventing and disrupting any activities that pose a threat to Canada’s national security. The RCMP encourages anyone with information about potential terrorist activities to contact the National Security Information Network at 1-800-420-5805 or the RCMP at 1-800-387-0020.

The RCMP also reminds the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Together, we can help keep our communities safe from the threat of terrorism.
