Maple Leafs sign defenceman Cade Webber to two-year entry-level contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a significant addition to their roster, signing defenceman Cade Webber to a two-year entry-level contract.

Webber, a 19-year-old from Meadville, Pennsylvania, was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. He has spent the past two seasons playing for Boston University, where he recorded 11 points in 58 games.

Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas expressed his excitement about the signing, stating, “We are thrilled to have Cade join our organization. He is a talented and hard-working player who has shown great potential during his time at Boston University.”

Webber is known for his strong defensive skills and physical presence on the ice. Standing at 6’6″ and weighing 220 pounds, he is a formidable force on the blue line.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join such a prestigious organization like the Maple Leafs,” Webber said in a statement. “I am looking forward to working hard and contributing to the team’s success.”

Webber will join the Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, for the remainder of the season. He is expected to make his professional debut in the near future.

This signing comes at a crucial time for the Maple Leafs, who are currently battling for a playoff spot in the highly competitive North Division. With Webber’s addition, the team hopes to strengthen their defensive depth and make a push for the postseason.

Fans of the Maple Leafs can look forward to seeing Webber in action and witnessing his growth as a player in the years to come.
