Boil water advisory issued for Bowness, outdoor water ban for Calgary

A boil water advisory has been issued for the community of Bowness and an outdoor water ban has been put in place for the city of Calgary.

The advisory was issued by the City of Calgary on Friday, April 23, after routine testing of the water supply showed the presence of E. coli bacteria. The affected area includes all homes and businesses in Bowness, as well as the Bowness Park area.

Residents in the affected area are advised to boil their water for at least one minute before consuming it, using it for cooking, or brushing their teeth. This includes water used for making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, and preparing baby formula. The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

In addition to the boil water advisory, the City of Calgary has also implemented an outdoor water ban for the entire city. This means that residents are not allowed to use outdoor water for any purpose, including watering lawns, washing cars, or filling pools. The ban is necessary to conserve water and ensure that there is enough clean water available for essential use.

The City of Calgary is working closely with Alberta Health Services to monitor the situation and ensure that the water supply is safe for consumption. Residents are advised to continue boiling their water until further notice and to follow all instructions from the city regarding the outdoor water ban.

The City of Calgary has also set up a temporary water station at Bowness Community Association for residents to access clean drinking water. The station will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until the advisory is lifted.

It is important for residents to take this advisory seriously and follow all instructions to ensure their safety and the safety of their families. The City of Calgary will continue to provide updates and information as the situation develops. For more information, residents can visit the City of Calgary’s website or call 311.
