After a brief stint with the Ottawa Redblacks, American quarterback Dominique Davis is returning to the Montreal Alouettes for the upcoming CFL season.
The 31-year-old Davis previously played for the Alouettes in 2016 and 2017, where he served as a backup to starting quarterback Darian Durant. During his time with the team, he completed 18 of 30 passes for 208 yards and one touchdown.
Davis then joined the Redblacks in 2018, where he had a breakout season as a starter. He threw for 2,146 yards and 13 touchdowns, leading the team to a 9-9 record and a spot in the East Division final.
However, Davis struggled in the 2019 season, throwing for only 1,941 yards and seven touchdowns, with 12 interceptions. He was eventually replaced by Jonathon Jennings as the starting quarterback.
Now, Davis is looking to redeem himself with the Alouettes. In a statement released by the team, he expressed his excitement to be back in Montreal and his determination to help the team succeed.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to return to the Alouettes and I am ready to work hard and contribute to the team’s success,” Davis said.
Head coach Khari Jones also expressed his confidence in Davis, stating that he has “a lot of faith” in the quarterback’s abilities.
“He’s a great leader and a great teammate. He’s going to come in and compete and make us better,” Jones said.
Davis will join a strong quarterback lineup in Montreal, which includes Vernon Adams Jr. and Matt Shiltz. The Alouettes finished the 2019 season with a 10-8 record and a spot in the East Division final, and they will be looking to build on that success with the addition of Davis.
Fans can catch Davis and the rest of the Alouettes in action when the CFL season kicks off on June 11.
