Medicine Hat’s own Mackenzie Porter has been recognized as the Female Artist of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards. The ceremony, which took place on Sunday, September 12th, also saw Josh Ross take home multiple awards.
Porter, who hails from the small city in Alberta, has been making waves in the country music scene with her powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics. She has been nominated for numerous awards in the past, including the CCMA Rising Star Award in 2014 and the Juno Award for Country Album of the Year in 2019.
This year, Porter’s hard work and talent were finally recognized as she took home the prestigious Female Artist of the Year award. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her fans, family, and team for their unwavering support and dedication.
Meanwhile, fellow Albertan Josh Ross had a big night at the CCMA Awards, winning three awards including Songwriter of the Year, Roots Album of the Year, and Roots Artist of the Year. Ross, who hails from Red Deer, has been making a name for himself in the country music industry with his unique blend of traditional and modern sounds.
The CCMA Awards, which celebrate the best in Canadian country music, were held in London, Ontario and featured performances by some of the biggest names in the industry, including Dean Brody, Jess Moskaluke, and Dallas Smith.
Other notable winners of the night included Dallas Smith, who took home the coveted Entertainer of the Year award, and The Reklaws, who won Group or Duo of the Year.
