Police are currently investigating a suspicious house fire that occurred in Oshawa on Monday evening.
According to authorities, the fire broke out at a residence on Stevenson Road North, near Rossland Road West, at around 7:30 p.m. Multiple emergency crews, including firefighters and police, responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring homes. However, the house sustained significant damage.
Thankfully, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is still unknown and is being investigated by the Durham Regional Police Service’s Arson Unit.
Residents in the area reported hearing loud explosions before the fire broke out. One witness, who wished to remain anonymous, told CTV News that they saw a group of people running away from the house just before the fire started.
Police are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area to come forward and assist with the investigation.
The Oshawa Fire Department is reminding residents to always be cautious when using fire and to ensure that all smoke alarms are in working condition.
