Two adults and a baby were rushed to the hospital after a house fire broke out in Oakville, according to the town’s fire chief.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at a residence on Lakeshore Road West, near Fourth Line. Firefighters were called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.
According to Fire Chief Paul Boissonneault, the two adults and baby were able to escape the burning house before emergency services arrived. They were then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Boissonneault also stated that the fire was quickly brought under control, but not before causing significant damage to the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Neighbours reported hearing loud explosions coming from the house, which Boissonneault confirmed were likely caused by propane tanks stored in the garage.
The fire chief also praised the quick response and efforts of the firefighters, who were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes.
The incident serves as a reminder for all residents to regularly check their smoke alarms and have a fire escape plan in place. Boissonneault emphasized the importance of having working smoke alarms, as they can provide early warning and save lives in the event of a fire.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Oakville Fire Department.
