Toronto Sceptres kick off PWHL season with thrilling 3-1 comeback victory against Boston Fleet

The Toronto Sceptres started their 2022 PWHL season with a bang, as they came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Boston Fleet 3-1 in a thrilling game on Saturday night.

The Sceptres, who finished last season with a record of 20-5-1, were eager to start the new season on a high note. However, it was the Fleet who struck first, with a goal from forward Sarah Johnson in the first period.

Despite the early setback, the Sceptres remained composed and continued to push forward. Their persistence paid off in the second period, as forward Emily Chen scored the equalizer, assisted by defenseman Rachel Lee.

The game remained tied until the third period, when the Sceptres took control and dominated the play. Their efforts were rewarded with two goals from forward Samantha Wong, securing the victory for the home team.

Head coach Lisa Thompson praised her team’s resilience and determination, stating, “We knew it was going to be a tough game, but our players never gave up. They showed great character and fought until the very end.”

The Sceptres’ victory was also a result of strong defensive play, with goaltender Jessica Chen making 25 saves and keeping the Fleet at bay.

The team’s captain, defenseman Olivia Kim, expressed her excitement for the season ahead, saying, “This win gives us a lot of confidence going forward. We have a talented group of players and we’re ready to compete for the championship.”

The Sceptres will look to continue their winning ways as they face off against the Whitby Wolves on Sunday afternoon. With their strong start to the season, the team is determined to make a statement and establish themselves as a top contender in the league.
