A man has been left with serious injuries following one of three fires that occurred in Ottawa overnight.
According to Ottawa Fire Services, the first fire was reported at around 11:30 pm on Tuesday in the 100 block of McLeod Street. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find a two-storey residential building engulfed in flames. The fire was quickly brought under control, but not before causing significant damage to the building. Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident.
The second fire was reported at approximately 1:30 am on Wednesday in the 200 block of Wiggins Private. Firefighters arrived to find a townhouse unit on fire. The blaze was quickly extinguished, but not before causing extensive damage to the unit. No one was injured in this incident.
The third and most serious fire occurred at around 3:30 am on Wednesday in the 100 block of Bayswater Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a two-storey residential building fully engulfed in flames. One man was found inside the building and was rescued by firefighters. He was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The fire was brought under control, but not before causing significant damage to the building.
The cause of all three fires is currently under investigation by Ottawa Fire Services. It is not yet known if they are related.
Residents in the affected areas were temporarily displaced due to the fires, but have since been able to return to their homes.
Ottawa Fire Services is reminding residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms in their homes and to have a fire escape plan in place. They also urge residents to never leave cooking unattended and to properly dispose of smoking materials.
