A house explosion in northern Alberta is believed to have been caused by a gas leak, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The incident occurred on Monday evening in the community of Fort Vermilion, located approximately 500 kilometers northwest of Edmonton.
RCMP officers and emergency responders were called to the scene after reports of a loud explosion and a fire at a residential property.
Upon arrival, they discovered that the house had been completely destroyed and debris was scattered across the surrounding area.
Thankfully, no one was inside the house at the time of the explosion and there were no reported injuries.
After conducting an investigation, the RCMP determined that the most likely cause of the explosion was a gas leak.
The gas company responsible for the area, ATCO, was also called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
In a statement, ATCO confirmed that they had shut off the gas supply to the area and were working with the RCMP to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
The RCMP is reminding residents to always be cautious when it comes to gas leaks and to report any suspicious odors or sounds to the appropriate authorities.
They also urge homeowners to regularly check their gas lines and appliances for any potential issues.
The investigation into the Fort Vermilion house explosion is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP.
