The Montreal Alouettes have made a significant addition to their defensive lineup by signing Wesley Sutton to a two-year contract.
Sutton, a 27-year-old defensive back, brings a wealth of experience to the Alouettes. He previously played for the Edmonton Eskimos and the BC Lions, where he recorded 60 tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in 33 games.
General Manager Danny Maciocia expressed his excitement about Sutton joining the team, stating, “Wesley is a talented player who has proven himself in the CFL. He will bring a strong presence to our defense and we are thrilled to have him on board.”
Sutton, who stands at 6’1″ and weighs 200 pounds, is known for his physicality and ability to cover receivers effectively. He will be a valuable asset to the Alouettes’ defense, which ranked third in the league last season.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to play for the Montreal Alouettes,” Sutton said. “I am looking forward to contributing to the team’s success and helping them reach their goals.”
The Alouettes have been making moves in the off-season to strengthen their roster, and the addition of Sutton is another step in the right direction. With training camp just a few months away, fans are eager to see how Sutton will fit into the team’s defensive scheme.
Sutton’s signing also adds depth to the Alouettes’ secondary, which already includes standout players like Tommie Campbell and Ciante Evans.
The Alouettes will kick off their 2022 season on June 11 against the Ottawa Redblacks. With Sutton now on board, the team is poised to make a strong push for the playoffs and potentially the Grey Cup.
Fans can expect to see Sutton in action when the Alouettes take on the Toronto Argonauts in their first pre-season game on May 28. Until then, the team will continue to make moves to solidify their roster and prepare for the upcoming season.
