Witness to B.C. hit-and-run involving baby shocked at suspect driver’s release

A hit-and-run incident in Squamish has left a baby stroller damaged and the community in shock.

According to Squamish RCMP, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at around 2:30 p.m. on Cleveland Avenue. A mother was pushing her baby in a stroller when a vehicle struck the stroller and fled the scene.

The mother and baby were not injured, but the stroller was significantly damaged. The mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, described the incident as “terrifying” and “heartbreaking.”

“I was just walking down the street with my baby when I heard a loud noise and saw the stroller being hit,” she said. “I couldn’t believe someone would just drive away like that.”

The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run has been described as a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Toyota RAV4. The driver is believed to be a woman in her 30s with blonde hair.

Squamish RCMP are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They are also urging the driver to turn themselves in.

“This is a serious incident and we are actively investigating,” said Sgt. Jeff Shore. “We are asking the driver to do the right thing and come forward.”

The community of Squamish has been shaken by the incident, with many expressing their shock and concern for the safety of pedestrians.

“I can’t believe someone would hit a stroller and just drive away,” said local resident Sarah Thompson. “It’s scary to think that this could happen to anyone.”

The incident serves as a reminder for drivers to be cautious and responsible on the road, especially in areas where pedestrians are present.
