Postpartum depression in the spotlight through Okanagan community auction

The Okanagan community is coming together to raise awareness and support for postpartum depression through a unique auction.

Postpartum depression, also known as postnatal depression, is a mental health disorder that affects new mothers after giving birth. It can cause feelings of sadness, anxiety, and exhaustion, making it difficult for mothers to care for themselves and their newborns.

According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, 1 in 5 women experience postpartum depression, making it a common but often overlooked issue.

To bring attention to this important topic, the Okanagan community is hosting an online auction to raise funds for local organizations that support mothers struggling with postpartum depression.

The auction, organized by the Okanagan Postpartum Depression Awareness Society, features a variety of items donated by local businesses and individuals. From gift baskets to gift certificates, there is something for everyone to bid on.

All proceeds from the auction will go towards supporting mothers in the Okanagan who are dealing with postpartum depression. This includes providing resources, support groups, and counselling services.

The society hopes that by shining a spotlight on postpartum depression, they can break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage more mothers to seek help.

According to the society’s president, Sarah MacDonald, “It’s important for new mothers to know that they are not alone and that there is support available for them. We want to create a safe and understanding community for mothers struggling with postpartum depression.”

The auction has already received a lot of support from the community, with many businesses and individuals generously donating items for the cause.

The online auction will run until the end of the month, giving people plenty of time to bid on their favorite items and support a worthy cause.

If you or someone you know is struggling with postpartum depression, it’s important to seek help. The Canadian Mental Health Association offers resources and support for those dealing with postpartum depression.

Together, we can raise awareness and support for postpartum depression in the Okanagan community. Let’s come together and make a difference for new mothers in need.
