A North Bay teenager is facing multiple charges, including the production of child sexual abuse material.
According to police, the 17-year-old was arrested on Tuesday after an investigation by the North Bay Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit.
The teenager, whose identity cannot be revealed due to their age, has been charged with making, possessing, and distributing child sexual abuse material. They have also been charged with luring a child under the age of 16 and extortion.
The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred between January and March of this year.
Police say the investigation began after they received a report from a concerned citizen about the teenager’s online activities. The Internet Child Exploitation Unit then launched an investigation, which led to the teenager’s arrest.
The teenager has been released on bail with strict conditions, including no access to the internet or electronic devices, and no contact with anyone under the age of 16.
They are scheduled to appear in court on May 5.
The North Bay Police Service is reminding parents and guardians to monitor their children’s online activities and to report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.
Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the North Bay Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit or Crime Stoppers.
