At the Northern Ontario Men’s Curling Championships, young team Riley Winters is proving that age is just a number. Despite being one of the youngest teams in the competition, they are not intimidated by their more experienced opponents.
Winters, who is only 23 years old, leads his team of 20-somethings with confidence and determination. They have been training hard and are ready to take on the challenge of competing against some of the best curlers in the region.
“We may be young, but we are not afraid to go up against anyone,” Winters said. “We have been working hard and we are excited to see what we can do at this championship.”
The team, which includes third player Kyle Johnson, second player Tyler Smith, and lead player Ryan Brown, has been playing together for three years. They have been steadily improving and are now ready to make their mark at the Northern Ontario Men’s Curling Championships.
Their coach, Mark Thompson, has been impressed by their dedication and skill. “These young men have a lot of potential and they are not afraid to take on challenges,” Thompson said. “They have been working hard and I have no doubt that they will do well at this competition.”
The Northern Ontario Men’s Curling Championships is a highly competitive event, with the winning team advancing to the Tim Hortons Brier, the national men’s curling championship. Despite the pressure, Winters and his team are focused on playing their best and enjoying the experience.
“We know that this is a big opportunity for us and we are going to give it our all,” Winters said. “But at the end of the day, we are just happy to be here and to have the chance to compete against some of the best curlers in Northern Ontario.”
The Northern Ontario Men’s Curling Championships will take place from February 10-14 in Thunder Bay. Winters and his team are ready to show the curling world that age is just a number and that they are a force to be reckoned with.
