The tragic deaths of a family in Prince Rupert have been officially ruled as a homicide-suicide, according to the findings of an inquest.
The inquest, which was conducted by the BC Coroners Service, determined that the deaths of the family members were a result of a murder-suicide committed by the father.
The family, consisting of a mother, father, and their two young children, were found deceased in their home on March 27, 2021. The father was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while the mother and children were found with fatal gunshot wounds.
The inquest heard from witnesses and reviewed evidence, including forensic analysis and toxicology reports. It was determined that the father had a history of mental health issues and had been struggling with depression and anxiety.
