Satellite data has revealed the widespread extent of flooding in Mindanao caused by Typhoon Inday. The powerful storm, which made landfall in the southern Philippines on July 19, has brought heavy rains and strong winds, resulting in severe flooding in several areas.
According to the latest satellite images, the provinces of Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Maguindanao have been heavily affected by the typhoon. The images show large bodies of water covering vast areas of land, including residential and agricultural areas.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a warning for possible flash floods and landslides in these areas, as well as in nearby provinces such as Bukidnon and Cotabato. The agency has also advised residents to take precautionary measures and to closely monitor updates from their local government units.
In response to the situation, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has activated its emergency operations center and has deployed rescue teams to assist affected communities. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has also provided relief goods and other forms of assistance to affected families.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has been working to clear roads and bridges that have been rendered impassable due to the flooding. The agency has also been conducting damage assessments to determine the extent of the typhoon’s impact on infrastructure.
As of now, there have been no reported casualties due to the typhoon. However, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and to follow safety protocols to avoid any untoward incidents.
Typhoon Inday is expected to continue moving towards the West Philippine Sea and is forecasted to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday, July 24. PAGASA has advised the public to continue monitoring updates and to take necessary precautions as the typhoon may still bring heavy rains and strong winds in its wake.
